Non-Lethal Bullfighting After the Camarma Bull Run | Photos & Highlights

What Happens After the Bull Run in Camarma de Esteruelas

On Saturday, September 7th, 2024 after the Bull Run, Bethany took the boys home after the Bull Run, I stayed behind to photograph the next part of the event in the Plaza de Toros. This is where the action continued in the true Camarmeño style—a non-lethal bullfight that showcases bravery, tradition, and skill.

Instead of a traditional bullfight, this local variation focuses on testing the courage of participants, who act as matadors but without the goal of harming the bull. Each person takes turns stepping into the ring, facing the bull head-on, and seeing how close they can get without being gored. It’s a delicate dance of nerves and respect, where the participants aim to outmaneuver the bull with grace and agility.

The bulls used for this event were donated by the "Asociación Cultural Taurina de Camarma,” emphasizing the community’s dedication to preserving this unique tradition. The crowd watched in awe, cheering on those daring enough to step into the ring. It was a spectacle that highlighted both the power of the bull and the spirit of those who faced them.

It was fascinating to see the mix of fear and excitement as each person tested their limits. The whole event felt like a celebration of courage, skill, and culture.

I managed to capture some incredible moments during this portion of the day, and I invite you to take a look at the photos in the gallery below. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear what you think!
